Early Minton & Co.

These early Minton & Co tiles may have been made for the 1851 Great Exhibition.

They were designed by Victorian architect, Owen Jones. It is possible that they were installed in the Alhambra Court in the Crystal Palace, Sydenham, London in 1852.

Photographs: Mark Hill Publishing and Woolley & Wallis (from the tile collection of Carolyn Wraight).

The articles below are by Michael Spender (Glazed Expressions #50) and Hans van Lemmen and the drawings are from the British Museum, being early designs by Owen Jones.
