St Agnes, Newmarket

I greatly indebted to Chris Blanchett for tipping me off about this hidden gem in my own back yard: St Agnes, Bury Road, Newmarket. The interior of this otherwise unassuming church is entirely tiled to shoulder-height, in relief-moulded, and richly glazed tiles by Frederick Garrard of London, and thus rather rare and unusual. And very beautiful.

The tiles are copies of Spanish 'cuenca arista' or impressed relief tiles of the medieval and renaissance periods.
