Type: Inlaid encaustic terracotta clay tile.
 
Description: Decorated floor tile in neo-medieval style with maker's marks and stabbed holes to the rear. From the Hans van Lemmen Collection.
 
Design: Beast with the face of an owl and a tail ending in foilate buds set within a circular chain of eight entwined links (foils) and with quarter florets in the corners.
 
Colours: Terracotta red and buff.
 
Dimensions: 6" x 6" x 1" (150 mm x 150 mm x 24 mm)
 
Condition: Lower left corner has been broken and glued back. The repair is visible but adequately achieved. Other edge nibbles but overall the surface is good (see photos).
